When many people hear the words “food, health, and fitness”, they usually attach a negative connotation to it, and I could understand why. We live in a society that holds a certain beauty standard, but everyone is different, and their version of “beauty” may be different in comparison to others; there is nothing wrong with that.
Food should be something to be enjoyed. Yes, there are many foods that carry unhealthy ingredients that may not be good for us, but we all enjoy the “bad stuff” every now and then. I believe everything is in moderation because our bodies are our temples, and we should take care of them. It’s common knowledge that everything is connected and whatever we put into our bodies affects one thing or another.
Moreover, moderation is key, right? If you want to devour a basket of fries one day, why should you be made to feel guilty. Enjoy those fries but try to balance out your meal. It took me a while to get away from the constant negativity around food that surrounded me, and I hated it. So, I learned to balance out my meals and I was still eating everything that I loved. For example, I make sure to get a good amount of protein every day because protein is important. I make sure to include some type of vegetable and fruit every day because those are a good source of vitamins and other nutrients. A few days ago, I went out to a late lunch and needed to figure out what to order. I knew that I wanted dessert and was going to have a day of eating and drinking the following day. Therefore, I ordered their chicken dinner. It was two chicken breasts topped with a lemon sauce, sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese. I chose green beans and coleslaw as my two sides. I figured I would get a good amount of protein and veggies in and take in my calories through the coleslaw and the caramel apple cookie and ice cream skillet. It was worth it.
I know that some of us eat certain ways because we may have medical conditions that take priority and that’s why studying our bodies is crucial. What works for me or Evy may not work for you. One day I sat and did my research on what my body needed and that was the best thing I did. I have certain issues that I need to take into consideration and that prevents me from feeling “good”. I had to learn that all the influencers and companies on the internet advertise certain products because the products worked for them. Many others try those products and see no results. I learned that sometimes you need to adjust certain routines, not use certain products, or include other products that will better fit your body and lifestyle.
In learning more about my body, my health, removing the toxicity around food, finding fitness routines for me, and getting to a better place mentally, I have managed to lose 45lbs, feel better in different ways, and subsided the medical/stomach issues that I have.
Aside from learning about food and fitness, this part of our podcast is also about how we love to try new restaurants or places we have never been to. Tina created a list of restaurants and bars divided by city and she tries to cross off a place or two every month. Tina and Evy want to try these places and get back to our listeners with our thoughts and opinions. It would also be great to receive recommendations from our listeners. As time goes on, Tina continuously adds to the list in hopes of exposing her palette to all types of food around the world.
Through this adventure, Evy and I want to share our experiences with you in the hopes that you learn more about yourself. Maybe you find different recipes that you can make your own or different workouts that you can tweak to fit your body and lifestyle. Maybe you learn of a few new places to eat or grab a cocktail. We want to share the knowledge we have and what we have learned because we have both been through our fair share of trials or challenges. We also welcome any suggestions that you may have that we could implement into our lives.
